This edition actively searches for potential tax deductions and credits that the user may not be aware of, up to some 350 of these. The Deluxe Edition brings users a lot more functionality for the extra outlay, most of it looking to save you more money than it might cost to buy the software, so it seems like a worthy investment. This version is very straightforward to use, and includes some great features, such as the ability to just take a photo of your W-2 with your phone and then upload it (this works seamlessly for those users who work for one of the 1,000+ TurboTax partners). It isn't quite as robust as Credit Karma Tax, but still very good.
The Free Edition works perfectly well for simple tax returns, which should include almost everyone that earns less than $60,000 per year. The Deluxe version is the most popular, and comes with the increased functionality that most users will appreciate. The free version can be used by people with an income of less than $66,000 and, as already stated, is for those with simple tax returns only. The prices for TurboTax software (excluding the free version) are slightly higher than the comparable product prices of their main competitors, but the brand recognition and additional inbuilt features compensate for the difference.
